The Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania with 4.566 m altitude. It's the fifth highest mountain in Africa and one of the most beautiful volcanoes.
The mountain is located north-east of Arusha, in the Arusha National Park.
A trekking tour on Mount Meru is good as an acclimatization trip before attacking Mount Kilimanjaro. The route up to the summit is quite steep and passes trough rainforests, parklands, over streams and moorlands.
You can spot a lot of animals on the way, like birds and colobus monkeys. The last part of the trek passes over the crater ridge. If the weather is good it's possible to see the Mount Kilimanjaro.
