Safari means journey in Swahili, the language of the coastal people of East Africa, but for a visitor it has a special meaning - in a country where you can see the most remarkable display of wildlife to be found anywhere on earth.
For most visitors a trip to the great parks will be the highlight of their visit. It is a great adventure! In Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar you can feel the excitement of groups about to set off.
If at all possible, visit the parks as part of a camping safari, or at the very least stay in one of the tented camps or lodges. Such a safari is a memorable experience, the atmosphere is very special and you will be well looked after by the staff.
Tanzania has a higher percentage of protected wildlife areas than any other country on earth, with 27 percent of its land divided into 11 National Parks, 38 game reserves and numerous forest reserves as well as some 40 management areas, and several other kinds of protected areas.
