The first suggestion that all organisms may have had a common ancestor and diverged thLocated on a working coffee plantation at the foot of Mount Meru, just eight miles outside Arusha town, it's approximately 30 minutes from Kilimanjaro Airport. Accommodation is in forty two comfortably furnished and individually styled rondavel huts overlooking Lake Duluti. The whole area is a haven for bird life and the lodge can organise walks around the lake and the coffee plantations. There is a pool, a large central restaurant serving good food and the bars an ideal place to discuss the safari or climbing experiences. Probably the best place in this area and newly refurbished.

The staff here are friendly, the lodge comfortable, food delicious and atmosphere peaceful at all times. With just twenty tastefully furnished tents, its still a personal lodge.

safariTarangire Safari Lodge
The Lodge is located in Tarangire National Park with a fantastic view on the Tarangire River. The luxury twin tents combine the authentic safari atmosphere of ‘nights under canvas’, with more modern comforts of electric light and en suite bathrooms. The bungalows are built from local stone in the circular style of Maasai huts. At the heart of the lodge are the impressively high thatched roofs of the lounge and dining room. The open-sided design allows an uninterrupted view of the landscape and wildlife below.

Tarangire Sopa is ideally placed within the park, where beautiful baobab trees pepper the landscape and elephant seem to line every road during the dry season. The Sopa lodge has a welcoming feel to all travellers, with its vast marble floors, huge roofs and cold flannels and iced juice at the reception. In the pretty gardens is a pool, bar and wooden loungers and delicious barbecue lunches are often served here. The seventy five rooms are simple, comfortable and very spacious.

Perched on the rim of the crater, the lodge itself is one of Tanzania's wonders! The design is wonderfully opulent with great attention to detail, imaginative antiques, African art and English country house furnishings… in perfect harmony! There are thirty rooms in three separate camps here, all slightly different, though each oozes romantic, intimately and secrecy. It's certainly one of the most luxurious lodges in Tanzania, so not suited to everyone.

Built into the rim of the crater, the plant and ivy-covered native stones are gradually blending into the surrounding hillside. (the lodge is still quite new) The views of the crater will certainly take guests breath away, as the seventy five rooms and bar/restaurant all look out across the valley below. The service is friendly, food delicious and facilities well run. There are also numerous walks and activities one can do from the lodge.

Located on the eastern rim of the crater, the lodge is the only tourist accommodation here. It therefore offers guests unique and spectacular views down into the crater floor and of the sunsets over the western horizon. Another major advantage of this location, is that guests can be in the crater within five minutes of leaving the lodge. The 92 rooms are all very spacious, comfortable and set below the main lodge, so views of the forest and crater are great. It's a well managed lodge with friendly staff and excellent cuisine.

The lodge is located in a spectacular position: literally perched on the rim of the crater and built mainly from natural stone and local timber. The 75 rooms are all simple yet comfortable, though the views from the rooms. The staff is friendly and the outside veranda must offer one of the best sundowner spots in Tanzania.

seroneraSeronera Wildlife Lodge
Ideally located in the heart of the Serengeti plains on the edge of the Seronera River, this is the perfect starting point for exploring the area. The lodge is built on a kopje with excellent views. There are seventy five very simple yet comfortable rooms. Don't come here if you're looking for excellent service and luxurious rooms, though the staff is very friendly and rooms clean. Use the lodge for its great location - especially during the months of the migration. There is also a spacious restaurant and very pleasant bar, that overlooks the plains.

The lodge is located in the south west of the Serengeti and is the only lodge in this section of the Park. The lodge has seventy nine rooms that are quite simple yet very spacious and have all modern conveniences required for a good stay.

 

loboLobo Wildlife Lodge
Located in Serengeti's Lobo area, approximately 45 km from the Kenyan border, this is one of the best lodges operated by the government, though the 75 rooms are simple.

However, saying this, come here for the excellent wildlife which will certainly make up for any of the lodges discomforts. There is a beautiful lookout post near the swimming pool, where one can view animals grazing in the plains below the lodge.

With just fourteen spacious tents raised on wooden platforms, the views are stunning. Grumeti is small enough to offer a personal service as well as providing knowledgeable guides, drives and walks. All tailored to guest's requirements.

 

ndutuNdutu Safari Lodge
Situated in the south-eastern part of the Serengeti, Ndutu is shaded by towering acacia trees facing the lake. The 32 cottages are built of local materials and have private verandas to enjoy the views. It's certainly a peaceful little camp with good game viewing year round in the surrounding plains, waterholes and marshes. However, the whole area is transformed during the few months when the migration passed through!

 

mbuziMbuzi Mawe Tented Camp
Set amid rocky outcrops or 'kopjes' as they are called locally, which are geological features of the Serengeti, Mbuzi Mawe tented camp is in the heart of the Serengeti National Park, half way between Seronera and Lobo, in a low use area of the park. The camp consists of 16 uniquely appointed luxury guest tents each with their own en suite facilities and private veranda. Tents are decorated in a true African luxury style with mosquito nets and four poster beds and luxury his and hers bathrooms.

Set in a remote valley in the western corridor of the Serengeti just 50 km east of Lake Victoria, Grumeti is a blissful little camp that's nestled beneath some towering riverine trees, on a oxbow of the main river. It's a wild camp at certain times of year yet is always full of charm, romance and character. The staff is pleasant, guides knowledgeable, food excellent and the ten extravagantly decorated tents give another meaning to 'life under canvas'.
